REPORT FROM THE COMMISSION TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT, THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL AND THE COUNCIL Fifteenth report on relocation and resettlement
This report provides an overall assessment of progress on relocation and resettlement to date, and sets out the key actions that need to be taken by Member States to enable the relocation of all those eligible from Italy and Greece. During the reporting period, the overall positive trend in the number of relocations by Member States and Associated States continued. As of 4 September, 8,451 people have been relocated from Italy, and 19,244 from Greece, taking the total EU relocation figure to approximately 27,700 relocations.
However, after the record number of relocations in June, the pace of transfers slowed down in July and August. During the reporting period, only 544 applicants were relocated from Italy in July and 467 in August. The Commission’s view is that the current pace of relocation has not alleviated the increased pressure on Italy and is insufficient to relocate all those eligible. The report, therefore, urges all Member States to intensify their efforts and increase their pledges for Italy.
