REPORT FROM THE COMMISSION TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND THE COUNCIL regarding the mandatory labelling of the list of ingredients and the nutrition declaration of alcoholic beverages
1. The report responds to the obligation set for the Commission by Article 16(4) of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers. This provision exempts alcoholic beverages containing more than 1.2 % Alcohol By Volume (ABV) from the mandatory list of ingredients and the nutrition declaration. The report concludes by inviting industry to further develop current voluntary initiatives, and present a self-regulatory proposal that would cover the entire sector of alcoholic beverages within a year of the date of the report (13 March). If the Commission deems the proposal to be unsatisfactory they will launch an impact assessment to consider further options, including regulatory and non-regulatory measures.
