REPORT FROM THE COMMISSION TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND THE COUNCIL Interim Report in accordance with Article 26(1) of Regulation (EU) No 1144/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 October 2014 on information provision and promotion measures concerning agricultural products implemented in the internal market and in third countries and repealing Council Regulation (EC) No 3/2008
1. Council Regulation (EC) No 1144/2014 provides for EU funding to bodies which submit successful proposals (as decided by the Commission) for delivering promotional measures boosting the image of agricultural products in the eyes of consumers in the EU and in third countries. These measures are particularly designed to address the quality, nutritional value and safety of foods and their methods of production. Examples of such measures are those for promoting fruit and vegetables, dairy products, meat and the EU Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) scheme.
2. This interim report (15294/18) is not a legislative proposal, rather it is a summary of the scheme, how it works and how the Annual Work Programme has been used to align the needs of sectors with opportunities and identifying priorities with an associated budget. It describes some of the changes that have been made to the management of the scheme and the reasons behind them following reform of the regulations in 2014. It is supported by a further document, The Commission Staff Working Document (15294/18 ADD 1) which details the statistical information on the grants awarded during the reporting period (2016 up to submission and selection results for the 2018 call).
