Recommendation for a COUNCIL DECISION authorising the opening of negotiations on behalf of the European Union for the conclusion of an Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of the Seychelles on access for fishing vessels flying the flag of the Seychelles to the waters of Mayotte
1. This recommendation relates to a Council decision authorising the opening of negotiations on behalf of the European Union (EU) for the conclusion of an Agreement between the EU and the Republic of the Seychelles on access for fishing vessels flying the flag of the Seychelles to the waters of Mayotte. The recommendation outlines that the Council should authorise the Commission to open and conduct negotiations for the conclusion of a new agreement with Seychelles to access the waters of Mayotte under EU jurisdiction by Seychelles’ vessels.
2. The current agreement between the European Union and Seychelles, which entered into force on 1 January 2014, expires on 6 June 2020. This recommendation states that negotiations should begin again between the two parties to potentially allow a future agreement, similar to the current one, to be reached.
