Proposal for a COUNCIL DECISION on the position to be adopted, on behalf of the European Union, in the EU-Turkey Association Council as regards amending Protocol 2 to Decision No 1/98 of the EC-Turkey Association Council on the trade regime for agricultural products
1. Bilateral trade relations between the EU and Turkey in relation to agricultural and fishery products are laid down in an agreement made between the European Economic Community and Turkey on 12 September 1963 and a further EC-Turkey Association Council Decision No 1/98 of 25 February 1998 (98/223/EC).
2. Under this 1998 Council Decision, the European Union is granted certain concessions in the area of tariff quotas for exports of bovine meat (as specified under Protocol 2 which concerns the preferential regime applicable to the importation into Turkey of agricultural products originating in the Community). There are currently two quotas for frozen bovine meat between the EU and Turkey: A 5000 tonnes quota with a 50% reduction on the Most Favoured Nation rate with a maximum of 30% tariff duty, and an additional 14100 tonnes quota with a 30% reduction on the Most Favoured Nation rate with a maximum tariff duty of 43%.
