COUNCIL DECISION (CFSP) 2020/1464 of 12 October 2020 on the promotion of effective arms export controls
Arms export controls and German international outreach under Council
Decision (CFSP) 2020/1464. The Council Decision is about maintaining EU
commitments to the Common Position 2008/944/CFSP and the Arms Trade
Treaty by continuing to deploy the German Federal Office for Economic Affairs
and Export Control (BAFA) to promote, among third countries, the control of
arms exports.
2. The High Representative shall report to the Council on the implementation of
this Decision on the basis of regular reports prepared by BAFA. The
Commission shall report on the financial aspects of the implementation of the
project activities.
SCRUTINY HISTORY
3. An explanatory memorandum on this issue was last submitted for
Parliamentary scrutiny on 12 September 2019 for Council Decision (CFSP)
2019/1560 amending Council Common Position 2008/944/CFSP of 8
December 2008, defining common rules governing control of exports of
military technology and equipment of 16 September. The House of Lords EU
Select Committee cleared the item on 8 October 2019 at the Chairman’s sift
1755. The House of Commons European Scrutiny Committee cleared the
item as “politically important” on 23 October 2019 (ESC 40814, 2nd Report,
Session 2019/20).
