Communication from the Commission to the European Parliament, the European Council, the Council, the European Central Bank, the European Investment Bank and the Eurogroup Coordinated economic response to the COVID-19 Outbreak
1. This communication of 13 March 2020 outlined the Commission’s immediate response to mitigate the economic impact of COVID-19. The Commission pledged to fully use all the tools at its disposal to tackle and mitigate the socio-economic consequences of the pandemic, focussing on: protecting the integrity of the Single Market; supporting people to ensure that incomes and jobs are not affected disproportionately by the pandemic; supporting firms, in particular SMEs; ensuring the liquidity of the EU financial sector and countering the threatening recession; and ensuring a framework allowing Member States to act decisively in a coordinated way
2. The communication set out a range of actions that the Commission were taking. These measures have since been superseded and have been subject to previous Explanatory Memoranda and correspondence.
