COMMISSION DELEGATED DECISION (EU) …/… of 3.5.2019 supplementing Directive 2008/98/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards a common methodology and minimum quality requirements for the uniform measurement of levels of food waste
1. Article 9(5) of the Directive 2008/98/EC (“the Waste Framework Directive”) requires Member States to monitor and assess the implementation of food waste prevention measures by measuring the levels of food waste based on a common methodology. To that end, Article 9(8) of the Waste Framework Directive requires the EU Commission to adopt a delegated act to establishing that common methodology for measuring food waste. These two EU Commission documents (11363/19 and 11363/19 ADD 1) summarise the EU Decision produced to meet that requirement.
2. The documents set out what is in scope of the measurement of food waste requirements and articulate how the measurement is to be conducted. The purpose being to ensure Member States are able to report up-to-date data on an annual basis and comply with the requirements of Article 9(5) of the Waste Framework Directive.
